Publish Your Thesis as a Book with ISBN

Turning your Thesis/Dissertation into a Book

The publication of a thesis is often deemed important for advancing one’s career in academia or a related profession. Transforming your thesis/dissertation into a book monograph serves as a stepping stone in shaping an academic trajectory, exerting influence within your discipline, and broadening your understanding of the field. While your thesis initially has a limited readership, publishing it online significantly expands its reach to a broader audience.

We specialize in publishing academic theses/dissertations as thesis monographs, complete with ISBN and DOI, through our UniqDelve. These publications become part of the CrossRef thesis database. All submitted manuscripts undergo an internal review process, and authors should anticipate several modifications in accordance with the editor’s instructions.

Submitting a book proposal

Initiating a dialogue with an acquisitions/commissioning editor is beneficial, particularly toward the conclusion or shortly after completing a PhD. Engaging in discussions with supervisors and colleagues during this phase is invaluable. The subsequent step involves the submission of a book proposal, subject to consideration by the publisher and often entailing a peer review process. Research-level books are frequently incorporated into established series, making it advantageous to be aware of existing works within such series when framing and developing a book proposal.

Publish Your Thesis as a Book

When crafting a book from your thesis, it’s crucial to consider several key principles. Firstly, the main title should be succinct, positioning the book clearly without relying on additional bibliographic details. Chapter titles play a significant role, often revealing whether a book is a thesis conversion. Liberating yourself from conventional chapter titles used in a thesis can lead to a more dynamic and engaging book. Focus on leading your book with the key findings or arguments rather than delving into the process. Avoid lengthy sections on literature review or methodology, integrating them seamlessly when relevant. A book manuscript should generally be shorter than the original thesis, requiring a careful evaluation of content. Finally, utilize introductory and concluding chapters to provide context for your research, aiding in situating your work within the broader field.

The submission process can be broken down into three steps:

  • Step 1:  Compile the following details into a single PDF file and send them to books.uniqdelve@gmail.com:
    • Author’s updated CV.
    • Supervisor’s details (Name, designation, affiliation, email id/mobile number); the supervisor may be contacted for verification.
    • Scanned copy of the thesis approval certificate.
    • Scanned copy of the degree certificate (or provisional or mark sheet if the Thesis Title is mentioned in the mark sheet) awarded based on the said thesis.
    • List of publications (if any) derived from the thesis, along with its online link.
  • Step 2:  If all documents are deemed appropriate, you will be requested to format the thesis consistently and send it in an editable Word file format.
  • Step 3:  If the thesis is found suitable for consideration, you will need to pay an online publishing fee of $100 (or Rs. 5000/+GST for Indian students). Expect various modifications in the thesis as per the editor’s instructions. The publishing process may take up to 2 months or more.
Key Strategies for Transforming Your Thesis into a Book

Adapting your dissertation into a book necessitates a reimagining of various elements, from the title and chapter headings to references. The resulting book should be more accessible, personalized, and highlight crucial information in an expanded form.

  • Titles: The title of your book serves as the initial point of engagement for your audience. Similarly, well-crafted chapter titles convey more about the book’s content than even a finely written blurb. Ponder over the book and chapter titles to formulate an initial outline, shaping the structure of your book.
  • Initial Review and Editing: Examine your thesis to gauge how existing sections align with the outline derived from your initial draft of chapter titles. Expect the need for adjustments, and embrace the opportunity to refine your work as you proceed to the next step.
  • Additional Research: Following the initial review, identify areas requiring additional information to enhance key aspects of your work. This step also facilitates the incorporation of quotations from other writers, contributing to a broader and more comprehensive scope in your writing.
  • Active Revision and Editing: This phase involves substantial hands-on effort. It is likely to consume the majority of your time as you transition your thesis into a book. Here, you’ll flex your writing muscles, infusing your voice with a more engaging and captivating tone than what is typically required for a thesis.
  • Proposal: Prepare and submit a comprehensive proposal to your chosen publisher. This essential step includes key elements such as your working title, keywords, author/editor details, a description of the book’s target audience, background information on the research, benefits to the audience, and more.
